Our position

Recovery at work,

not after it.

Long term absence from work does not generally help anyone recover. The evidence behind the SIRA framework is clear that extended work absence, work disability and unemployment tend to have a negative effect on health and wellbeing, which is why the scheme is built around recovery at work rather than recovery before work. That is the principle we work to. Suitable duties early, adjusted as capacity changes, with everybody looking at the same plan. It requires the worker, the employer, the insurer and the treating doctor to actually agree, and coordinating that agreement is most of the job. We are approved by SIRA under Part 7 of the Workers Compensation Regulation 2016, which means insurers can refer to us and our services can be delivered within the scheme.

Our services

What we are approved

to deliver.

Nine workplace rehabilitation services, most of them delivered on site rather than in a clinic room. Filter by type, or call (02) 7227 9893 to discuss a specific case.

The approval

What SIRA approval

commits us to.

Approval is not a badge you apply for once. It carries conditions, and it is reviewed.

Evidence based services

The approval framework requires services to be evidence based and informed by the health benefits of good work, rather than whatever has always been done.

Minimum return to work rates

Providers are held to minimum return to work performance. Our results are measured, not asserted, and they are part of maintaining approval.

Annual reporting and self evaluation

Approved providers report annually and self evaluate against the framework. Certificates of approval are granted for up to three years and must be renewed.

A code of conduct

We work to SIRA’s Guidelines for the Provision of Relevant Services, which set the conduct expected of every provider operating in the scheme.

How a file runs

From referral

to case closure.

Four stages, with insurer approval obtained before anything begins.

Referral

An insurer, employer or treating doctor refers. We confirm the worker has a current certificate of capacity and that the insurer holds a copy, then propose a scope.

Approval

The insurer approves the services and the cost before we commence. Nothing is delivered on assumption, and there are no surprise items on an invoice.

Assessment and plan

We meet the worker, attend the workplace, assess capacity against real job demands, and build the recovery at work plan with the worker, employer and doctor.

Review and close

The plan is monitored and upgraded as capacity changes. When the worker is stable in suitable or pre injury duties, we close the file and report.

Why refer here

Why insurers and employers

use us.

Most workplace rehabilitation providers subcontract the clinical work. Ours is in the building, which shortens the gap between an assessment finding and something actually happening about it.

Are you a SIRA approved workplace rehabilitation provider?
Yes. Health Society Co. is approved by the State Insurance Regulatory Authority to deliver workplace rehabilitation services in the NSW workers compensation scheme under Part 7 of the Workers Compensation Regulation 2016. Our provider number is [insert], and our certificate of approval runs to [insert date]. Insurers are directed to refer only to SIRA approved providers, so this is worth checking with any provider you are considering.
An insurer, an employer or a treating doctor can refer. Workers can ask their insurer or employer to make a referral to us by name. Call (02) 7227 9893 or email [referrals@ address] and we will confirm a scope and cost for insurer approval.
We confirm a scope and cost quickly, but services cannot commence until the insurer approves them. Call us with the details and we will tell you honestly what our current capacity looks like rather than accepting a file we cannot start on.
There are no gazetted fees for workplace rehabilitation providers in the NSW workers compensation system, unlike allied health treatment services which are set by SIRA. We provide a schedule of rates on request, confirm cost against the approved scope before commencing, and invoice itemised. Ask us for our current rates.
Workplace rehabilitation providers are not defined in the CTP legislation, so there is no SIRA approval mechanism for workplace rehabilitation in that scheme. We do treat CTP claimants through our clinical services, including physiotherapy, and SIRA approval is not required to deliver treatment services in the CTP scheme. Call us to discuss what is appropriate for a specific claim.
Most of them at the workplace, which is the point. Workplace assessments, job task analysis and modification advice are done on site, in consultation with the worker and the employer. Some assessments and reviews happen at our Leichhardt clinic. We service the Inner West and greater Sydney.
Physiotherapy treats the injury. Workplace rehabilitation manages the return to work around it: assessing capacity, analysing the job, finding suitable duties, and coordinating the worker, employer, insurer and doctor. They are different approvals and different services. A worker can receive both, and having them in one building means the treating physiotherapist and the rehabilitation consultant are not working from different assumptions.
Yes. All NSW employers must have a return to work program in place within twelve months of starting a business, and it must be consistent with the insurer’s injury management program and any guidelines issued by SIRA. If yours has never been reviewed, that is worth a conversation before you have a claim rather than after.
