How we practise

Working with your GP,

not around them.

Naturopathy at Health Society Co. sits alongside conventional medical care. It does not replace it, and we will never ask you to stop something your doctor has prescribed. If what you describe belongs with a GP or a specialist, we will tell you that in the first consultation rather than three months and a cupboard of supplements later.

What we do bring is time. A long first appointment, a full history rather than a symptom checklist, and attention to the patterns that get shrugged off as normal: energy that has quietly dropped, cycles that changed, digestion that dictates your week, sleep that stopped being restorative.

The method

What a naturopathic plan

is built from.

Five components. Not every plan uses all of them, and your naturopath will explain why each one is or is not in yours.

A personalised, whole body approach

Your history, your constraints and your priorities. Two people with the same complaint rarely leave with the same plan.

Evidence based herbal and nutritional medicine

Prescribed for a stated reason, with the reasoning explained and reviewed. Not a standing shelf of supplements you keep buying indefinitely.

A complement to conventional treatment

We work with your GP and specialists, not instead of them, and we refer back when something needs medical attention.

Functional pathology testing and interpretation

Ordered only when the result will change what we do next. Testing carries an additional cost and does not replace investigations your GP has ordered.

Lifestyle and dietary guidance

Built around what you can realistically sustain, including the cooking, the budget and the hours you actually keep.

In the consultation room

How a first consultation

actually runs.

Longer than a standard appointment, because most of the value is in the history. No referral required, and nothing you need to prepare beyond what is listed below.

Intake

A full history rather than a symptom list. Diet, sleep, stress, cycle, digestion, medical background, medications and supplements. Bring recent blood test results and a list of anything you currently take.

Investigate

Your naturopath explains what they think is going on and why. If functional pathology would change the approach, it is offered with the cost stated upfront. If something needs your GP, you are told then.

Plan

You leave with a written plan covering diet, lifestyle and any prescribed herbal or nutritional medicine, plus what to expect and when to review it.

Initial consultations are longer than follow ups. Naturopathy is a private fee service and select health funds offer rebates. Reception will confirm timing, fees and rebate eligibility when you book.

What makes this different

A naturopath with six other disciplines

down the hall.

Most naturopaths practise alone. Ours sit inside a clinic with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a speech pathologist, remedial massage therapists and a Registered Nurse, which changes what a referral looks like when your plan needs one.

What does a naturopath do?
A naturopath takes a detailed history of your health, diet, sleep, stress and medical background, then works on the underlying patterns behind how you are feeling. The tools are dietary and lifestyle change, herbal medicine and nutritional medicine, sometimes supported by functional pathology testing. It is a complement to medical care rather than a substitute for it.
No. Naturopathy consultations are booked directly and no GP referral is required. Bring any recent blood test results and a list of your current medications and supplements, as both are useful in the first appointment.
Mostly listening and questions. Your naturopath takes a full history covering diet, digestion, sleep, stress, cycle, medical background and anything you currently take, then explains what they think is going on. You leave with a written plan covering diet, lifestyle and any prescribed herbal or nutritional medicine, and a review point.
The evidence varies considerably by intervention. Some nutritional and herbal interventions have solid research behind them, others have much less, and honest practice means saying which is which. Our naturopaths work from the evidence where it exists, explain the reasoning behind what they prescribe, and do not make claims about treating or curing serious disease.
Yes, and you should bring the full list to your first appointment, including doses. Some herbs and nutrients interact with prescription medicines, so your naturopath needs to know exactly what you take before prescribing anything. We will never ask you to stop or change a prescribed medication. That is a conversation for you and your doctor.
The concerns people bring to us most often are hormonal changes and women’s health, digestive complaints, fatigue and low energy, stress and sleep disturbance, skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis, immune support, and weight related goals. If what you describe needs medical investigation, we will tell you and refer you back to your GP.
Functional pathology covers tests that look at how body systems are operating rather than diagnosing disease. We use it selectively, only where the result would change what we recommend. It carries an additional cost, which is stated before anything is ordered, and it does not replace the standard investigations your GP arranges.
Some health funds still offer naturopathy rebates under extras cover, though many have reduced or removed them in recent years. Check directly with your fund before your appointment, as the answer depends on your fund and your level of cover.
